Current Species is a genre-blending music collective created by songwriters and producers Stephen Johnstone and Karl Brooks — an anonymous artistic project built around freedom, experimentation, and emotion without boundaries. Designed as an umbrella for multiple musical identities and styles, Current Species moves between street rap, soul, cinematic rock, drum & bass, electronic grooves, and bass-driven modern production while maintaining a distinctive underground atmosphere throughout.
Built around hidden artists, shifting sounds, and evolving creative worlds, the project focuses on mood, storytelling, rhythm, and raw emotion rather than fame or image. From gritty street-inspired records and crunchy basslines to soulful melodies, atmospheric textures, and high-energy electronic production, every release is designed to feel different while still connected to the same creative DNA.
Inspired by underground culture, cinematic sound design, vintage soul, modern urban music, and experimental production, Current Species exists as a platform without limits — where genres collide and new identities are constantly created.
